The Elevador de Santa Luzia was inaugurated on 2 June 1923. Overcoming a gradient of 160 metres in six to seven minutes, the Santa Luzia Elevator is the longest of all the funiculars in the country, with its 650 metres, more than double the distance of the next one, the Nazaré (310 metres), while in Lisbon there are the Bica (283 metres), Glória (276 metres) and Lavra (188 metres) lifts and in Braga, the Bom Jesus, with only 274 metres.
The capacity is 24 passengers, eleven seated and thirteen standing, and wheelchair users, baby carriages and two bicycles can also be carried.
Tickets cost 3 euros for the same-day return journey and 2 euros for a single ascent or descent, and there is a 30 euro monthly pass for regular users.
