To mark the festive period of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, “Viana, Heart of Christmas” presents over a hundred proposals and initiatives. Christmas Square, Christmas Market, children’s activities, concerts, street entertainment, exhibitions and New Year’s Eve are the highlights of an enhanced and captivating programme.
Praça da República has once again been transformed into Praça Natal, with a carousel for the little ones and decorations to celebrate. This year, the 3D Christmas Tree is located in the Marina Garden. The lighting on Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra has been extended and this year there are six multimedia shows a day, combining sound and light.
As a novelty, a giant multifunctional tent has been installed in Praça da Liberdade to host Viana Natal, with a Christmas market, family activities and musical entertainment, as well as the World Fan Zone and the Viana Winter Fest night-time entertainment.
On 2 December, the Christmas lights on the city’s streets will be unveiled. This year, the lights will be on from Monday to Friday, from 18:00 to 22:00, and on Fridays and weekends the hours will be extended, from 18:00 to 00:00.
The Christmas lights will decorate 28 of the city’s streets. The choice to use high-intensity LEDs will save around 33 per cent of energy, without losing the festive glow.
During this period, “Viana is Christmas” will promote the offer of vouchers to customers in local shops (involving 120 participating shops and distributing 11 prizes), the Christmas window display competition in traditional shops and the sound system in the streets.
From the beginning of December, cloth bags with the image “Viana, Heart of Christmas” will be made available to local businesses, inviting them to be reused as a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.
From 1 to 16 December, the “Viana + Presente(s)” (Viana + Gift(s)) initiative will once again be promoted, with the aim of collecting toys for needy children in the municipality.
Viana continues to be the heart of Christmas. And there’s no shortage of reasons to visit the people of Viana.
